Typeface Family

Novel is a antiqua font family consisting of 6 weights and 6 styles. It was innitially designed for use in classical editorial typography. The project started off as an experiment in broadnip pen calligraphy and focussed on how rotation of the pen was enabling the designer to manipulate strokes. During the design process I added more and more details to match requirements for the use in corporate typography which created an interesting contrast between the warm hand drawn shapes and straight details.

Novel has generously expanded character sets, small caps for both roman and italics, 14 different sets of figures, nice open type features and supports lots of languages. Fonts are available as Pro version (917 glyphs) and Std version (245 glyphs).  If you have more than just a few hedlines to set in I highly recommend to purchase the Pro versions.

Novel was awarded by the Type Directors Club of New York (TDC) with the Certificate of Excellence in Type Design and got nominated by the German Ministry of Economy and Technology for the Design Price of Germany 2010.
